Did you know certain items could be rescued from your bin and recycled?

It is recycling week in the UK and the theme is ‘Rescue me.’ This idea being that you remember that adage of reusing or recycling before you throw things in the bin. It is estimated that 52% of things we simply pop in our bins could be recycled either in the recycling bin or given to charity shops

Recyclenow.com has a fantastic resource on its website which lets you if something can be recycled and how and where you can do this. Simply pop in your post code and it has advice about what can be recycled and how to do so.

Another useful site is Zerowastescotland – which has hints and tips on how to recycle things efficiently and has a rather splendid recycling locator which lets you pop in the name of the item you want  to recycle and it will tell you where you can drop it off.

Can I also draw your attention to useful new bins throughout the city for disposal of small electrical goods. Nineteen pink bins have been installed at various locations across the city. Their locations are here. Items which are smaller than the size of an average microwave should fit in these bins and the council would appreciate it your device is bigger than this that you take it to the appropriate recycling point and not leave it by these bins. The Council would also ask that batteries are removed and recycled – use the recycling locator to find out where you can do this.
