Fuel poverty awareness day is today – December 3rd

This day was started by the National Energy Action charity to draw attention to the issues faced because of the cost of energy. Over four million people live in fuel poverty in the Uk, suffering because of high energy costs, inefficient insulated homes, and low wages.

Colder homes can seriously effect health both physically and mentally and the worry about it can cause real distress. To save money, people ration use of energy, making the decision to live in one room, or heating only that room or choosing to use the oven to cook a meal rather than turn the heating on.

We want to ensure that our tenants can access the help they may need. We have a specific block on our website (the bright blue block) which will take you to lots of information about the cost-of-living crisis and where to find help and advice.

For those fleeing the cold there are various warm spaces available throughout the city.  Aberdeenshire Council has a similar set of information on their website – Shire warm spaces. Moray has similar help at the Moray wellbeing Hub.

Financial advice is available from the financial inclusion teams and SCARF and Citizens Advice Bureau and details are available in the cost-of-living advice section on our site.

The Association is working hard to make our properties more energy efficient. We have been in receipt of grants for superbead insulation in one hundred of our properties within the city and have been installing PV photovoltaic panels on the roofs of all properties at Richmondhill Court.

In 2025 we will continue to investigate ways of achieving savings and will update tenants as and when we implement things. As ever if you have concerns we would encourage you to speak to your Housing or Property Services Officer.
